Magnetic Bomb Kills Syria Ministry Official

A senior civil servant at Syria's electricity ministry was killed by a magnetic bomb attached to his car today in central Damascus. "As part of a campaign of assassinations... terrorists fatally wounded today morning Mohamed Abdel Wahab Hassan, the director of planning at the electricity ministry, with an explosive device attached to his car," state news agency SANA said.

The incident took place in Baramke neighbourhood, the agency said, adding that Hassan "was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital".

Child Rape Case: Mayawati Demands in Parliament

Condemning the rape of a five year-old in the city, BSP chief Mayawati today demanded an immediate discussion on the issue in Parliament and reforms in the police force. Om Puri calls 5-year-old girl's rape "Shameful" - Bollywood Actress

 Amid public outrage over the brutal rape of a five-year-old girl, Bollywood actor Om Puri says the recent incidents of atrocities indicate the erosion of values in the society. "We call ourselves a 5,000 year old civilisation. We proudly say this is the land of Buddha and Gandhi. 

Today, where is Buddha? Where is Gandhi," the actor told PTI here. "Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev sacrificed their lives for the country. Have their lives gone in vain? Did we gain independence to see such disgrace," Puri said.

Four Died in Suicide Bomb Attack in Pakistan Tribal Region

A woman suicide bomber today detonated a bomb outside a hospital in a lawless tribal area of northwest Pakistan, killing at least four people and injuring five others. The blast occurred outside the main gate of the hospital in Bajaur tribal area bordering Afghanistan, senior official Asad Sarwar said. Assistant Political Agent of the area confirmed that it was a suicide attack.

"The suicide attacker was a woman who detonated the bomb outside the main gate of the hospital," he said. Hospital sources confirmed that four people died and five others were injured.

Taliban Attack Kills 6 Afghan Police Officers

Taliban insurgents have attacked a police checkpoint in eastern Afghanistan, killing six officers.

The militants hit the post today in the Dayak district of Ghazni province, said Col. Mohammad Hussain, Ghazni's deputy police chief. In addition to the six dead, the attackers wounded one officer. Another was missing.

Pakistan Court Orders Musharraf's Arrest

Former military ruler Pervez Musharraf was today ordered to be arrested by a court here in a case over the imposition of emergency rule in 2007, but evaded being taken into custody with his bodyguards whisking him away before the police could act. The Islamabad High Court rejected Musharraf's plea for extension of bail in connection with the sacking of over 60 judges during the emergency. 

69-year-old Musharraf, who returned to Pakistan on March 24 after a nearly four-year long self-imposed exile abroad to contest the May 11 general elections, appeared in the High Court under a thick security blanket.

3 Killed, Over 140 Injured as Two Blasts rock Boston - Yoshita Singh

In an apparent terror attack, two bomb explosions ripped through the cheering crowd at the finish line of the popular Boston Marathon, killing at least three people and injuring over 140. The two blasts occurred within seconds on a sidewalk along the 42-kilometre route of the Boston Marathon, where thousands of people had lined up to cheer on the marathoners yesterday. 

Though there was no clue as to who was behind the explosions, a White House official said they were approaching the blasts as an act of terror.

Andhra govt Announces Rs 15 lakh Assistance - SC/ST Students

Rs 55 cr invested in Jagan companies through Hawala: CBI

Dalmia Cements, named as accused in the CBI charge sheet in disproportionate assets case against Jaganmohan Reddy, has allegedly invested Rs 55 crore through hawala route in the cement companies promoted by the YSR Congress chief. 

CBI sources claimed they have got money trail of Rs 55 crore which were allegedly invested by Dalmia Cements in Jagan's company through hawala routes in return for favours received from the state government.
